So What Even Is BMI?

BMI stands for Body Mass Index — it's basically a number calculated from your height and weight. Doctors use it as a quick way to screen for weight-related health stuff. It's not perfect (it can't tell the difference between muscle and fat), but it's a solid starting point if you're curious about where you stand.

How to Use This

Pick metric or imperial, plug in your height and weight, hit calculate. That's it. You'll get your BMI number along with a detailed classification — everything from Severe Thinness all the way up to Obese Class III. We also show your healthy weight range and how far off you are, if at all.

Quick BMI Ranges

  • Under 16 — Severe Thinness
  • 16 – 16.9 — Moderate Thinness
  • 17 – 18.4 — Mild Thinness
  • 18.5 – 24.9 — Normal (the sweet spot)
  • 25 – 29.9 — Overweight
  • 30 – 34.9 — Obese Class I
  • 35 – 39.9 — Obese Class II
  • 40+ — Obese Class III

Remember, BMI is just one piece of the puzzle. If you're hitting the gym hard and packing muscle, your BMI might say "overweight" even though you're in great shape. Use it as a rough guide, not a final verdict.
