How the Citation Generator Works
Select your source type — book, journal article, or website — and fill in the relevant fields like author names, title, year, and publisher. The tool instantly generates a properly formatted citation in your chosen style. Click "Add to Bibliography" to build a complete reference list, then copy everything with one click.
Supported Citation Styles
The generator supports the four most widely used academic citation formats:
- APA (7th Edition) — Used in psychology, education, and social sciences. Features author-date in-text format with hanging indent references.
- MLA (9th Edition) — Standard for humanities, literature, and liberal arts. Uses author-page in-text citations.
- Chicago (17th Edition) — Common in history, business, and fine arts. Supports both notes-bibliography and author-date systems.
- Harvard Referencing — Popular in UK and Australian universities across multiple disciplines. Uses an author-date parenthetical system.
Building a Bibliography
Add multiple sources to your bibliography list. Switch between citation styles at any time — the entire bibliography reformats automatically. When you're done, use "Copy All" to paste the complete reference list into your paper. Each entry is numbered and can be individually removed if needed.
Tips for Accurate Citations
Always double-check author names, publication years, and page numbers. For journal articles, include DOI when available — it's the most reliable way to locate the source. For websites, record the access date since online content can change. When in doubt, consult your institution's style guide for specific requirements.
