Verify File Integrity With Checksums
This File Hash Checker computes cryptographic checksums for any file using MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 algorithms. It's the fastest way to verify a downloaded file hasn't been tampered with or corrupted.
How to Use
- Step 1 — Upload any file by dragging and dropping or clicking to browse.
- Step 2 — Select which hash algorithms to compute.
- Step 3 — (Optional) Paste an expected hash in the Verify Hash field.
- Step 4 — Click "Calculate Hashes" to compute all selected checksums.
- Step 5 — Copy individual hashes or check the verification result.
Supported Algorithms
- MD5 — 128-bit hash. Fast but not collision-resistant. Still used for quick integrity checks.
- SHA-1 — 160-bit hash. Deprecated for security but still common in legacy systems.
- SHA-256 — 256-bit hash. The current standard for file integrity verification.
- SHA-384 — 384-bit hash. Truncated version of SHA-512 for specific protocols.
- SHA-512 — 512-bit hash. Maximum security for sensitive file verification.
When to Verify Hashes
- After downloading software or ISO images
- When receiving files via email or file-sharing services
- To confirm backup integrity before and after transfer
- When validating data integrity in supply chain processes
