The Word & Character Counter uses standard algorithms to count words (whitespace-separated tokens), characters (with and without spaces), sentences (delimited by periods, question marks, and exclamation marks), paragraphs (empty-line separated blocks), and lines. Reading time is estimated at 200 words per minute and speaking time at 130 words per minute.
